NIKKEI Catalonia-Japan Economic and Cultural Forum 2026

The relationship between Catalonia and Japan dates back to the Barcelona International Telecommunications and Transport Conference held in 1921, and the two regions have since developed close ties in both cultural and economic fields. Catalonia has also established a strong presence in Japan as an attractive travel destination following the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Today, more than 180 Japanese companies operate in Catalonia, highlighting its importance as a key business hub in Spain. In addition, 2025 was designated as the Year of Catalonia-Japan Exchange, further strengthening bilateral ties.

Against this backdrop, Nikkei Inc. will hold the “Catalonia-Japan Economic and Cultural Forum 2026” in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia to deepen mutual understanding and explore future collaboration opportunities.
